Developer Monochrome and publisher Hatinh Interactive have released a new cinematic trailer for their upcoming puzzle platformer Tandem: A Tale of Shadows. The new trailer gives us a glimpse of the dreamy world that will be featured in the game when it comes out later this year on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. In Tandem: A Tale of Shadows, you play as headstrong girl Emma and a magical teddy bear called Fenton as they both explore and find clues regarding Thomas Kane’s mysterious disappearance. The world of Tandem: A Tale of Shadows is inspired by Jules Vernes, Conan Doyle, and Tim Burton where each dimension in the game feels like a German expressionist or Dutch golden age art piece brought to life.
Thomas Kane is the son of a famous family of illusionists and he vanishes without a trace. Unable to rely on the authorities, 10-year old Emma decides to investigate herself however as she is heading to the Kanes’ Manor, she witnesses a speeding carriage that drops a magical teddy bear. The teddy bear starts chasing the carriage and Emma joins the chase by chasing the teddy bear and eventually both of them arrive at the manor where the story kicks off.
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows key features include:
- Stunning Art Direction – Discover a playful and frightening universe inspired by Jules Vernes, Conan Doyle, Tim Burton, and Victorian-era architecture.
- Clever Puzzles – Solve over forty puzzles and obstacles in order to unravel the mystery surrounding Thomas Kane’s disappearance.
- Dual Gameplay – Swap perspectives between Emma and Fenton. Light up the scene and cast shadows as Emma from a top-down view. Walk on shadows projected by Emma’s lantern from Fenton’s side-scroller view.
- Fight with Strategy – Players will face mechanical toy-like enemies and bosses throughout each dimension. Since Emma’s strategy is not to attack, players must rely on their wit to move forward.
- Narrative-Driven Adventure – Players are invited to discover many fun, creative, and very elaborate cutscenes. Clever players will find the hidden rooms which will reveal the clues that will teach them more about the disappearance of Thomas Kane.
- Diverse Mechanics – Push or pull objects to create shadows. Use alarms and traps to your advantage. Tandem features a variety of interactive elements for players to experiment with.
Previously, the developer released the Gameplay Discovery Trailer so if you want to see the game in action, you can check it out as well. A confirmed release date for the game is not known at this point however it is slated to release later this year on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch.
