Pooplers is a unique title about pooping and painting the town with your poop. The toddlers featured in the game are very active when it comes to pooping and can poop on demand. Hence, you will be controlling these poop-happy toddlers to pain the levels and try to win the game as the most-pooping baby in the game. Developed by Art Games Studio S.A., Pooplers is a brand new take on painting games. This is our review of Pooplers in which we drop our diapers and get busy pooping in order to paint the town red.
Pooplers is a game about painting the levels with your poop. You take control of your baby and use the baby to poop the level in the color of your poop. At the start of the level, you are assigned a specific color and your goal is to poop around the level to paint it according to your own color. It sounds easy but it is not because the opponents will be doing the same with their own colors. Anyone who moves over your color and poops, the ground will turn to their color thus increasing their percentage of paint on the level. At the end of the level, the baby with the highest percentage covered is the winner of the game.
The idea might not be ideal for every player however you could call it a clone of Splatoon with some poop thrown in the mix. The main idea here is to paint the levels as much as you can with your little baby which is essentially the main goal of Splatoon 2 as well. The gameplay is pretty much moving the baby around the level and pressing down the A key to poop which paints the ground. Your opponents will try to do the same with their own paint and this is where the competition begins.
Apart from your opponents making it harder for you to win the game, you will also need to watch out for the mother which will see you pooping and pick you up after a brief chase. You can pick up different powerups to make yourself faster, increase the coverage range or even confuse mom with smoke grenades and get away from her. The levels are short at around 2 and a half minutes where you must avoid the mom, poop as much as possible and paint the level to win the game. The power-ups are a great addition to the gameplay which allows you to get back quickly in action if you’ve been sitting in the lockdown for some time.
Probably the best aspect for me in the game is the levels. There is a good variety of levels in the game which range from space to underwater. The levels also change the outlook of the mom such as she is a mermaid in the Underwater level and a scary skeleton in the Halloween level which takes place in a spooky graveyard. Each level also comes with its own challenges such as narrow paths, blockages and shortcuts for mom to use which you cannot use. However, you can avoid mom if you stop pooping for some time if she is after you but it means that your opponents are increasing their own territory as you try to escape from your mom.
Before you begin the game, you can customize the look of your baby to make it unique from the pack. You can change the color of its skin, hat and the color of clothes as well. These are just visual changes and they do not affect the gameplay of the game in any way. The main gameplay mode of Pooplers is the local co-op mode where you can play the game with three other local players. Each player controls their own baby and tries to paint the level in their own poop color to win. If you do not have people to play with, you can also play the levels with the AI however the real fun of the game lies in local co-op which the game is essentially made for.
There are plenty of game modes for local multiplayer such as the standard game, free for all and team battles where you can form teams and poop together. These additional game modes ensure that you have plenty of reasons to jump back in the game if you purchase it. You can also play as the mom in the Parents Vs Babies mode or you can jump in the Horde mode where you must defend your stock of candies from evil monsters trying to eat them all. Each of these game modes offers a unique gameplay change from the regular pooping and painting.
Final Verdict:
Pooplers is a unique game and we don’t know why it was made in the first place because the concept might not be for everyone. It must have been an awkward pitch as well. It may look like babies pooping on the ground but you will eventually paint the levels with your own color to win the game. The game does not offer much when it comes to customization and the gameplay mechanics are not something that you would say are totally unique. However, the levels are diverse and they are pretty well-designed. Different game modes will also keep you busy of you have some local friends or family to play the game with. It is quite fun while it lasts and you have something new to look for when it brings you to a new level. You can try out Pooplers if pooping babies and painting is something that would attract you.
