Valve Reveals Half-Life: Alyx VR Game, Releasing in March 2020

Half-Life: Alyx

Valve has just revealed the next title in the Half-Life series called Half-Life: Alyx. The game is exclusively a VR game and will feature Alyx Vance and the events that follow after her father was kidnapped. The events of the game are set between Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

The reveal came with a trailer that you can check out below:

The release date for the game was not confirmed, but it is confirmed to be releasing next year in March. The game will be a full VR experience that will be compatible with all VR headsets that work on a PC. The game is only releasing for PC and there is no confirmation if the game is going to be releasing on other platforms other than the PC. Additionally, there was no information about the pricing as well.

After more than 13 years, we finally get to see some new Half-Life content. The last title in the series was Half-Life 2, but this new game is set between the events of the first and the second major title of the series.

Half-Life: Alyx

You play as Alyx Vance and have to fight the common enemy that Alyx and Gordon were fighting against in the Half-Life 2. You get to see most of the famous Half-Life 2 enemies who are part of an alien group called Combine. Valve has talked about the gaming experience saying that it will be the classic Half-Life game where you will explore, solve puzzles and combat the aliens.

Lean to aim around a broken wall and under a Barnacle to make an impossible shot. Rummage through shelves to find a healing syringe and some shotgun shells. Manipulate tools to hack alien interfaces. Toss a bottle through a window to distract an enemy. Rip a Headcrab off your face and throw it at a Combine soldier.

Alyx will not only fight with weapons but she is also wearing the Gravity Gloves that allow her to move things or pick them up by pulling them near. Oh, and yes, we do get to see G-Man in the end again with his deep unsettling blue eyes and a slight smirk that he is famously known for. The character is still shrouded in mystery and Valve seems to want to keep it that way.

All things said, the title is far from being the next title in the series, which would be Half-Life 3. Though it may be disappointing, it is still something to look forward to after what seemed like ages since any Half-Life related content has come out. At times, we were not even sure if another title would ever make a comeback or if the series was gone forever. On the other hand, if the VR game does well, Valve will have something to think about and work on Half-Life 3.
