You can enjoy Path of Exile without spending a single dime. But if you’re not content with the standard adventurer look, have money or PoE currency to spare, and want to support the devs, there’s the microtransactions shop where you can buy purely cosmetic items for real money instead of PoE Orbs. Better yet, instead of vanity PoE items, why not buy a pet in Path of Exile? Yes, you can have a little companion beside you as you take on Wraeclast! Now isn’t that a fun prospect?
Horns, Paws, and Claws
There are lots of pets you can choose from, but we’ll begin with the Havenwood Deer Pet, the latest addition to the game’s ever-growing collection of critters. Very much nature-inspired, this cloven-hoofed beast has ornate glowing autumn-colored engravings and leaves on its antlers. If you’d perhaps want to share the same theme as this pet, you should try the Hunstman Armor Set, Character Effect, and the Verdant Footprints. The Huntsman Weapon Effect would also compliment this particular look.
However, in case you’re not a fan of the pet deer despite its pretty aesthetics, there are lots of others to choose from. Safer, more traditional options include dogs and cats. However, there aren’t a lot of canines to choose from, only the Blood Guard Hound and the Wolf. As for the latter, there’s a wide selection, either because cats are more popular with internet people or GGG are actually cat people. Black cat, celestial cat, orange cat, and there’s even a cat named Julio. Or maybe you want to go big. If so, there are tigers! There are ice tigers, harbinger tigers, the more realistic white tiger, and just the tiger.
Other than the usual house pets and their bigger relatives, there are also wild animals. Frogs, monkeys, bears (including koalas), bats, peacocks, and elephants–it’s a jungle out there in the microtransactions store!
All Bugged Out
Are you the type to lean more towards “exotic” pets? If that’s the case, you should get scorpions! There are over 13 scorpion variants to choose from, but the most recommended ones are the Acid Scorpion, Automaton Scorpion, Infernal, and Lightning Scorpion. The green Acid Scorpion would look good for poison builds, and if purple is your thing, there’s the Purple Acid Scorpion. On the other hand, if you use fire and lightning elemental builds, the Lightning and Infernal Scorpion, respectively, are going to be good for your image.
Finally, if you want a more neutral Scorpion that isn’t by any means less cool, the Automaton Scorpion might be the one for you. It’s got a chrome body with red energy lines, which gives the pet a bit of a sinister feel. If you want creepy crawlies but not scorpions, there are also spiders, beetles, and even a weta, a kind of locust indigenous to New Zealand, home to GGG!
Beyond the Animal Kingdom
How about a non-animal pet in Path of Exile? Thankfully, Wraeclast in Path of Exile is a strange place, so there are lots of them. You can get living yet manmade constructions like the Blade Sentry and Innocence Sword, or the macabre, and therefore perfect for Necromancers and Occultists, such as Demon Hand, Gothic Horror Ghost Child, and Grasping Hands.
Then there are those PoE pets that you can no longer buy because they’re included in certain packs. A prime example of that is the Amaranthine Gargoyle Pet. More of a chimera than a gargoyle, it has a lion’s body and center head, a bird’s wings, two side heads, and talons as its front feet. Other examples are the Exalted Rhoa and the Eternal Rhoa, which were included in the Supporter Packs during open beta. If you think of yourself as some Wraeclast collector with enough money or PoE currency to loot, why not get them yourselves?
Life with Path of Exile pets is definitely much better than life without one. If that’s true in real life, then it also rings true in Wraeclast. So if you can, get yourself a companion!
