Tetris 99 will get new modes in an upcoming update according to data miners. The different modes include Team Battle, COM Battle and Marathon. OatmealDome was able to learn about the different game modes from the code of the game. He described the different game modes as follows:

  • “Team Battle”: Two giant teams clash. Be on the winning side”
  • “COM Battle”: “Battle against 98 bots. Defeat the machines!” (supports both 99 Battle and Team Battle). You can also change the CPU difficulty in COM Battle.
  • “Marathon”: score attack -> 200 lines or endless. It appears you can also change the starting level.

He also mentioned that the marathon mode on Tetris 99 will support in-game achievements. The standard Tetris 99 Battle mode will have in-game events and rewards will be given out. If you do not know about Tetris 99, let me tell you that this is not your standard Tetris game. This is a battle royale game where you have to compete with 99 other players and the player surviving till the end wins. It is the opposite of Tetris effect and if you thought that you were good at Tetris, then Tetris 99 will make you doubt your skills.

Playing against 99 other players can be hectic but it is an amazing experience and I for one encourage you to give it a go if you used to play Tetri back in the day. The different modes that are coming to Tetris 99 will add more variety and players will have much more to do. People that have been playing the game have left great reviews.

You can also learn about other new games that are coming to the Nintendo Switch that include Hollow Knight: Silksong and Super Mario Maker 2.

Let us know what you think about Tetris 99 and what your experience has been like so far.
