Fans of the classic puzzle game Tetris will be delighted to know that a new competitive online Tetris game, Tetris 99 is now available for free on Nintendo Switch. It is a truly unique Tetris game as it is basically a battle royale game but with blocks obviously.
It was announced during the Nintendo Direct event last night and right after the event, it was available for all Nintendo Switch Online members for free.
In Tetris 99, players will battle 98 other players to be the last one standing at the end of the match. Players will need to make matches in order to survive in the game. As players fill their spaces completely to the top, they get eliminated.

To survive, players will need to ensure that they use all their block breaking skills and continue matching blocks in order to avoid filling their space to the top and getting eliminated from the game.
But who said that is was that simple? Players can also send Garbage Blocks to the opposition to make their life hell and make it more challenging for others to survive in the game. If you manage to KO someone, you will gain a KO badge.
The KO badges are very helpful in later game and you must try to get as many as possible if you want to retain the top spot for the longest and eventually emerge as the winner. In the Direct event, Nintendo announced that they have future content plans for the game as well.
Since Tetris 99 comes in the battle royale category in some ways, we can hope for them to follow the same season or special seasonal events criteria that other games follow in this genre. We will need to wait for more details on this however.
