The Asus Mothership is what you would call a Microsoft surface style device that has been designed for gamers. Asus has introduced some killer designs recently and the Asus Mothership is just another addition to that portfolio. Some people were able to check out the device before CES 2019 and here we are going to look into what this beast of a machine has to offer.
The Asus Mothership much like the Surface Pro sits on its screen and is supported by a stand. The keyboard can be folded out and an interesting thing is that it can be used by plugging it in or wirelessly. There is a switch on the keyboard which will allow you to connect it to the device wirelessly and I think that this is a cool feature to have.
The keyboard is not perfect. It is still a laptop-style keyboard but it does have some tactile feedback and lighting which is great. There are plenty of ways in which you can position the keyboard. You can place it against the screen to get a bit of a tilt. You can have it flat on a surface or you can fold it and gain some height. So there are plenty of orientations to choose from.
The trackpad is located at the right of the keyboard which might be odd for some people but this is something that we have already seen from Asus. Another cool feature is that the trackpad can also be used as a number pad.
Talking about what powered the device, the Asus Mothership uses an RTX 2080 graphics card. This is not a mobile version but the real deal. This means that it will be able to compete with pretty much any desktop on the market right now. The 17-inch screen has G-Sync and has a 144 Hz refresh rate for a smoothe experience when gaming.
All the components are the ventilation is behind the screen which is a great way of increasing airflow. Because the device is not in your lap, it is not being suffocated and is able to cool itself properly. The device is pretty thin keeping in mind the kind of hardware that you find inside and that is why ample cooling is needed to get proper performance when gaming.
There is little that we know about the release or the pricing of the Asus Mothership but looking at the specs and the materials that have been used it is safe to say that it is going to cost a lot of money.
Let us know what you think about the Asus Mothership and whether or not this is something that you would be interested in getting.
