AMD Navi graphics architecture is the next-generation architecture that is based on the 7nm process and it will be featured in the upcoming cards. We know this from the AMD roadmaps that we have seen for a while now. CES 2019 is around the corner and while nothing is confirmed yet, there are some things that are safe to mention.
We know that AMD Navi graphics cards will be coming out later this year. TweakTown has reported that Nvidia will release the Ampere architecture in 2020, which will be based on Samsung’s new 7nm extreme ultraviolet lithography process. If this is all true then this means that AMD will beat Nvidia in the 7nm race.
Nvidia Turing-based RTX graphics cards are the most powerful on the market right now but that could change once AMD Navi graphics cards come out. TweakTown expects the AMD Navi graphics cards to be announced in July which is a little more than six months from now. We are not sure what kind of performance gains Navi will have over Vega and that is something that only time will tell.
While it has not been confirmed AMD should announce the Navi graphics cards at CES 2019. Since it is around the corner, we shall find out soon enough. Reports claim that TSMC has not got the 7nm orders that it expected and that companies like Apple, HiSilicon, and Qualcomm are hesitant about the new technology. If that is indeed the case then that means that AMD will not have shortages and that the prices will be stable at launch.
Nvidia has claimed the same thing before and this is not something that AMD itself has stated so things could be different at launch. We will find out once the graphics cards hit the market.
Let us know what you think about AMD Navi GPUs and whether or not this is something that you are interested in getting for your next PC build.
