Developer and publisher Maru VR Productions has announced the second major update for its immersive castaway adventure Bootstrap Island. Bootstrap Island was released into Steam early access earlier this year in February and since then it has captivated you who love playing survival games. The new update arriving this fall for Bootstrap Island promises to enrich the survival experience with the introduction of the game’s first major boss encounter.
When the new update arrives, you will venture into the newly unveiled Dark Lair, where the formidable Jungle Overlord awaits. This fearsome primate must be defeated to progress further into the dense jungle. Successfully overcoming this challenge rewards, you with vital footwear that enhances walking and running speeds, crucial for navigating the island’s treacherous terrain.

In addition to the boss fight, the fall update will bring a host of gameplay enhancements and quality-of-life improvements. You will now find new edible critters that aid in survival, adding depth to the in-game ecosystem. However, they will also face the realistic challenge of food spoilage, necessitating careful cooking and resource management.

- Boss Monster: A powerful primate guarding the path to deeper jungle territories.
- Deep Jungle: A new, earthquake-ravaged area ruled by the Jungle Overlord.
- New and Revamped Critters: Expanded interactions with critters and the introduction of new edible animals.
Quality of Life Improvements:
- Spoiling: Food now spoils over time unless cooked, adding a realistic survival element.
- Boots: Equip boots to increase walking and running speeds.
- Save Icon: A save icon will now appear, enhancing the game’s usability.
This will be the second major update for Bootstrap Island following its Early Access launch. The June update, known as the Building and Inventory update, allowed you to construct and customize shelters for nighttime protection. Additionally, a new inventory management system introduced a satchel to aid in resource collection.
Bootstrap Island is currently available on PC via Steam in early access, and you can jump into the game right now and play it while helping out the developers with your feedback. This feedback will help shape the final form of the game. There are no announcements yet for the full release of the game however the developer is actively adding new content to the game which is evident from this latest update.
