Polish studio Asmodev and Ultimate Games S.A. have announced that their tower-defense cum shooter Ultimate Summer is making its debut on Steam. The game combines primitive carnage known from titles such as Serious Sam and heroic defensive maneuvers usually found in tower defense games. The title will start its life on PC as an Early Access title and will remain in this state until May 2021.
The gameplay of Ultimate Summer focuses on single-player mayhem and allows players to gather resources, set traps, and build towers for defense as well. The developers call the game a blend of well-known elements and mechanics while at the same time being the bloodiest tower defense game in history. Check out the release trailer below before we jump into additional details:
The developer details that when the game is released in Early Access, it will be a full game and it will be complete. However, over the period of Early Access, the developer will add a new sound system to the game, extend the soundtrack and add new difficulty levels in the game as well. One of the creators Mim comments:
We wanted to create a painfully generic tower defense title. In part, we’ve succeeded, because it is indeed an old chestnut of a game. In part, we haven’t, because it tastes fresh and bloody. It’s because we’ve also added mechanics typical for other genres. Gathering resources, a selection of weapons to choose from, shops, skill development, Heaven, Hell, aliens, blood.
It’s a low-budget release available at a fair, low price. Ultimate Summer was born out of the fascination with Castle Fight, a mod for Warcraft III. We’re not very creative, so we just stole some of the solutions, in tribute to the original devs.
Key features of the game include:
- A mix of a shooter and a tower defense game;
- Unforgettable story;
- Ability to harvest resources and souls;
- Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, Cthulhu, Carnivores and Aliens;
- 30 types of enemies and 14 bosses;
- Many weapons, even more traps and towers;
- Set in the Asmodev universe.
Ultimate Summer is releasing on Steam in Early Access on January 15, 2021, while the full launch of the title is slated for May later this year. The game is also slated for release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch at the same time. You can add the game to your wishlist right now on Steam or try out the free demo as well.
