In total, you have four different weapon mod choices right from the start. The mods become available right from the start as you finish the tutorial and have the option to equip a weapon mod.
Best Weapon Mod to Start With
The best starting Weapon mod you should get is the Hot Shot, which sets a target on fire with each of your shots, setting them ablaze and draining their health for 10 seconds. This is a very powerful mod that lets you chip away the damage of enemies and bosses alike.
All Other Starting Weapon Mods
Other than the Hot Shot, which is the best weapon mod in the early game, you have three more weapon choices after the tutorial. Although these mods are useful in their own way but are specialized to work in some scenarios like crowd-controlling enemies, or healing allies.
Scrap Shot
This mod lets you shoot a grenade that leaves spikes on the ground. Any target that comes to contact with them will be useful in slowing incoming enemies as they get hit by the spike barrier and also damage them slowly.
Healing Shot
The Healing Shot weapon mod lets you shoot health at your teammates, healing them by 35%. If any player in your team is there to support as a medic, this should be their weapon mod of choice.
Concussive Shot
This weapon mod becomes available right from the start, but it wont be the most effective in the early stages as it is best used for crowd control. The Concussive Shot lets you fire a damaging shot that goes through enemies and hits any target that comes in its fire.
